Occupational English for Professional Integration
New Project
At Hope & Trust, we know moving to a new country is very hard.
One big problem is learning English. Another problem is learning the special English you need for your job.
To help our community, we are starting a new course called Occupational and Functional English.
This course is for refugees who want to work again in their new country. It is also good for people who may return to their home country one day. These English skills are useful everywhere, because many people use English at work to speak with foreigners.
For example, a carpenter may need to understand what a customer wants in English, even in their home country.
Why This Course Is Important
Knowing how to say “hello” is good, but it is not enough for a job.
To work as a baker, carpenter, mechanic, hairdresser, office worker, or in many other jobs, you must know:
-
the names of your tools
-
how to speak with coworkers
-
how to understand what customers ask for
Without these workplace words, it is difficult to show an employer your real skills.
This course will help you learn:
✅ Technical Words
The names of tools, materials, and equipment in your job.
✅ Workplace Safety
How to understand safety signs and instructions so everyone stays safe.
✅ Team Communication
How to speak clearly to your coworkers, managers, and customers.
✅ Confidence in the Community
Feeling strong and independent so you can support your family and take part in your new community.
How This Course Helps You
When you learn the English for your job, life becomes easier.
You can:
-
show your skills clearly
-
get a safe and stable job
-
understand people around you
-
use your talents in your new home
This course helps you move from surviving to thriving.
1. How You Can Help
We cannot do this work alone.
If you want to help refugees rebuild their lives and join the community, here are ways to support this project:
1. Volunteer as a Mentor or Tutor
If you know a trade, like construction, cooking, sewing, hairdressing, mechanics, childcare, and more you can help.
You do not need to be a teacher.
You only need to know your job and be willing to practice simple vocabulary with students.
2. Share Your Job Skills
If you are an employer or a skilled worker, you can help us create:
-
Vocabulary Lists
-
Tool Guides
-
Simple job instructions
This helps students learn the correct words used in local workplaces today.
We also welcome help teaching basic practical skills.
3. Donate to the Program
Donations help us pay for learning materials, textbooks, and technology for the classes.
Every donation helps someone get closer to their first job in their new country.

Recent Project
June 4, 2025 -- June 14, 2025
Today, nearly 11 years later, many policy changes in host countries have left the Yazidis devastated, as they see the door to asylum closing.
They now live in fear of another attack, especially with hate speech already resurfacing in the Sinjar area.
We stepped out in faith and made a very recent trip to help the Yazidis who are holding on to false hope that their applications will be processed soon-unaware that major policy changes may affect their chances. We met with about 122 Yazidi families and assessed how those who have not been processed yet can meet the new criteria for asylum.
